Snowmobiling Packages
Groomed trails
Labrador represents hundreds of km of groomed trails taking snowmobiling enthusiasts through a diverse exciting countryside. The trails have a series of Chalets designated throughout the routes, providing locations for tours to enjoy lunch and a pause during their days riding. Refer to the “Labrador Map” in the “Travel Info” menu for a detailed look.
Many frozen lakes (endless space to ride)
Snowmobiling over the many frozen lakes of Labrador is just one of the things that sets it apart from anywhere else. This photo to the right speaks for itself. There are endless possibilities to snowmobile riding in the Labrador countryside. So much space for riding that the only traffic you will encounter are the Caribou herds.
Labrador wildlife
Labrador is home to a vast range of wildlife such as the Wolf, Lynx, the Black Bear, Fox, and Caribou just to name a few. The George River Caribou herd is the largest migrating Caribou herd in the world in excess of 750,000 animals. That’s why it is quit common to see Caribou herds on your journey through our county side, and sometimes they can be seen running on our groomed trails right in front of the ski-doos as in the photo to the left.
“Boil up!” – Campfire lunch
One of the most enjoyable highlights of the adventures is our “boil ups!” as the locals refer to it. This is where we have a mid-day break; light a little campfire and boil water for tea or coffee and have lunch. The weather and scenery are so beautiful, that this has become one of the favorite highlights for guests.
Moon Light ride & the northern lights
The Northern Lights or “Aurora borealis” as it is also known, are a common site in the winter night skies above Labrador. It is indescribable and should be something that all people must see at one point in their life. It’s nature’s natural fire works display and often difficult for people to imagine that this is a natural phenomenon. With our “Moon light” ride outing, this is something that our guests would love to see and never forget.
Off-trail riding & The Simms Mountain RangeSnowmobiling at Northern Lights Lodge
For our more experienced riders we offer off-trail riding in the Labrador outback and reaching the summit of the Simms mountain range. What a ride and what a view!
Ice fishing – season starts February 1st.
Guests also have the option to take a snowmobile tour to one of our ice fishing locations and try their winter luck in catching a fish. The guides drill a hole through the meters thick ice of the frozen Lake, and teach our guests how the natives and the local people ice fish.
Churchill Falls and Free tour of the Hydro Electrical Development
The vast waterways, lakes, and tributaries are a main industry resource for Labrador. The Churchill Falls Hydro Electrical Development is the largest underground powerhouse in the world. Not many people along the Eastern seaboard of North America realize that the power to turn on their television sets comes from Labrador. This is a fascinating tour which begins with the group traveling by snowmobile over the groomed 185km trail to the small town of Churchill Falls, then taking the 2-hour tour of the Hydro Development plant.
